The image below shows a fusiform aneurysm.

What is the arrow pointing to?

A. Residual vessel lumen
B. Artifact
C. Intraluminal thrombus

Explanation

Intraluminal thrombus is commonly seen in large aortic aneurysms. It is important to note that during abdominal aortic aneurysm measurement the measurement must be performed from outer wall to outer wall and if the intraluminal thrombus is present, it must be included in the measurement. It is also interesting to note that the presence of intraluminal thrombus is an independent predictor of abdominal aortic aneurysm growth.
