Ultrasound is more than just a diagnostic tool—it’s a gateway to seeing the unseen and connecting technology with human care. As an intern in the ultrasound community, I’ve had the privilege of diving into this fascinating field, learning not just the science but also the art of making it accessible and engaging for medical professionals and patients alike.

As someone continuing to build their involvement in the world of Public Health, I have begun to bridge education with the community setting. During my Fall internship with POCUS, I have had the ability to complete multiple tasks including data collection and creating social media content. The work I have completed (and will complete) has already been utilized in POCUS.

Diving into one of my tasks during my internship, I have been creating social media content for the POCUS Certification Academy. I’ve been immersed in the incredible impact point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) has on healthcare delivery. Simply enough, trying to compress information about all the work POCUS completes into a handful of social media posts has been a difficult task. POCUS does so much work for the community and for the greater good of all, it is hard to summarize it all in a short engaging post.

Point-of-care ultrasound is revolutionizing medical diagnostics. It provides real-time insights into a patient’s condition, empowering healthcare professionals to make faster, more informed decisions. POCUS spans across specialties, including emergency medicine, family practice, critical care, and beyond. But the power of POCUS isn’t just in the technology—it’s in the confidence and competence of the user. That’s where certification comes into play. Certification validates your skills, builds your credibility, and ensures you’re delivering the highest standard of care.

During the internship, I have been able to dive deeply into all that POCUS has to offer. From writing about ways to volunteer to writing up all the certification courses POCUS offers, I’ve learned a lot about the inner workings of the POCUS community. Their visions and goals all tie to patient care and committing to clinical proficiency to maintain the safety of all.

One of my favorite components of the social media campaign was the addition of a ‘meet the staff’ component. Sometimes there can be a disconnect between an online interface and the people that make the work happen. This addition puts the work with the faces of those who dedicate their time to impacting the world of certified ultrasound care. This section highlights why these individuals chose POCUS and how they can help with the knowledge they’ve gained. These staff members (along with others not highlighted) have made a lasting impact for the ultrasound community, and I am thankful to have worked alongside them in the past couple months.

POCUS is truly helping advance the world of certified clinical ultrasound. My goal during this internship was to find ways to make certification accessible and relatable in order to allow more people to understand the work and impact of POCUS. POCUS has allowed me to advance my knowledge of ultrasound along with gaining valuable experience and knowledge to help my career grow.
